Koroit Boulder Opal in 14k Gold Filled Wire

Koroit Boulder Opal in 14k Gold Filled Wire

My personal favorite of the opal family, Koroit Boulder Opals come from a particular area of Queensland, Australia and have the most unique appearance due to their dramatic patterns within the ironstone. They are the heartiest and most forgiving opals thanks to their ironstone host stone/matrix. However, they are not very easy to come by in their rough state and are still tricky to work with (as all opals are). This piece is especially lovely because it boasts a striking blue flowering pattern on top and some green flash within the pattern on the body. This one is rather special to me, so I won't be sad if it doesn't sell. ;)

This pendant is 1.5 inches in height, weighs 7 grams, and will come with a 20 inch 14k gold filled chain.

  • CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Opals are known for two things: Beauty and Fragility. Although Koroit opals are more forgiving than the other varieties, they should still be handled with the same kind of care as other opals. Like most beautiful things, opals are delicate and need to be handled with special care to avoid damage. Like a mogwai, one of the most important rules is to not get them wet. They are hydrophane, meaning they will soak the water up when exposed to it. This can create unwanted changes in your opal such as turning brown or yellow and losing all of its play-of-color. You can dry them out slowly and carefully to remedy this, but it's best to avoid this issue all together by keeping it dry. Since they are also sensitive to temperature changes, it is best to keep them in a temperature-controlled, dry environment. They should not be exposed to sudden heat or cold. Doing so can result in fracturing, chipping, and breaking. This is a delicate, precious gemstone; treat it with the respect it deserves. <3
